- What does it take to make Maple Syrup in Wisconsin?
Have you ever seen maple syrup make from scratch? It is but one of many God's taste sensations that we are able to enjoy. Some of the work is done for us by the maple trees that populate the forests and tree stands in South Central Wisconsin.
All year long the trees stand in the forest, absorbing the sunshine and rain that falls upon them. From mid-March through mid-February, all the stored nutrients are waiting to be tapped by our local maple syrup harvesters.
Some of our harvesters tap 25-50 trees, while others tape 1000's upon 1000's of trees to get the maple sap needed to produce our high quality maple syrup. Those 10 months of sap production is what we wait for every year
Every five days, one tree will yield about 40 gallons of sap. So digest this for a second... that 40 gallons of sap will then yield one gallon of delicious maple syrup .
- Is Family Farm Pantry Maple Syrup 'Organic' ?
Our producers tap trees in the ir natural state. Forest and timber tracts of wild, natural stands of sugar maple trees that have never been treated with pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals. Grown and maintained using National Organic Practices (NOP's) but without the certification. We grow organically because it is the right things to do...and not because some certifying agency tells us to do so.
- Syrup: Make Pancakes, Waffles, Ice Cream dance in your mouth
Did you know that when a recipe calls for 4 tablespoons of sugar, you only need 3 tablespoons of maple syrup? It's true. Additionally, if using recipes that include Maple Syrup (when you want a robust maple-flavor to be present), you may want to most likely use our Medium Amber or even our Dark Amber Maple Syrup. Since Maple Syrup from the 'Pantry contains no high-fructose syrups or other man-made chemicals, you, your family, and your friends will be consuming good stuff .
Our Family Farm Pantry members have been collecting sap and making syrup for generations. Most still operate as did their great-great gransparents. Real sugar shacks and sheds in the woods make the production experience a real old-fashioned experience. Sap is transported by gravity flow tree lines or direct tree taps and pails. Firewood and finished products are transported by horse and buggy. No electricity or petroleum products are used in the production of our syrups.
Final preparation and bottling is done in our state-licensed and inspected facilities/kitchens. Syrup is made today as it was 100 years ago. You can't get closer to the earth than Family Farm Pantry Maple Syrup.
